Getting from Atlanta’s northwest suburbs to city center was never easy but that has recently changed. The Silver Comet Connector is the Path Foundation’s attempt to connect the Silver Comet Trail to the Atlanta Beltline. It has been under construction for quite a while. Much of it is pretty good and nice roads exist for sections where it isn’t. The route I use is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/56117431.
I’ve done the trip twice. Its a different type of riding – in some ways more relaxing than hammering the country roads, with lots of photo ops and interesting things to look at. Then there’s sprinting all the red lights and trying to keep up with traffic on Peachtree St, which is a great interval workout.
Speaking of traffic, Sunday mornings are quiet and Atlanta drivers seem much more comfortable sharing the road with non-automobile traffic than their suburban counterparts. I was comfortable riding in New York City. Atlanta is a breeze.
